cash benefit on EBT card?

I currently unemployed and my benefits have run out. I recently went and got on food stamps. I have no income whatsoever. A friend recently told me that if you are on food stamps and have no income at all that you also get a cash benefit on your EBT card. They did not tell me anything about this at the food stamp office. I do not have any children, she said this does not matter, there is a number to call. Does anyone know anything about this? I am desperate, I have about thirty cents in my pocket.
Thanks!

fundraising

Hey My name is Lisa Evans and i'm running a non-profit organization named "Pet Playground". "Pet Playground" is a non-profit organization that sends new to gently used animals toys to animal shelters in the area. I was hoping that people will read this and hear our message and could help us in our mission to bring joy to animals that are stuck in cages in these animal shelters.

We need generous people to donations and/or help us fundraisers. I was hoping that maybe some generous people can find our cause worthy and donate some toys or money to our cause; and/or if you know of a youth group or scout program that are running low on fundraising ideas that they could help us. Contact me via email (Evans1742@gmail.com) even if you cant help us please.

A fellow soul trying to do good in this world

a little about me and help for those in need!!

hi everyone!! hope all is doing well. i'm very fortunate that these past few mths i've been living in my new apartment and no longer have to bounce bk in forth between diff family members that were letting us stay with them. life is good for me right now because i got into an income based apartment complex and so if my boyfriend gets laid off again we wont have to stress about looking for a new home again. i just want to let all the struggleing ppl out there 2 know that if theres a long waiting list for these income based apartments and u plan on getting in somewhere sooner than what they are telling u still get your name added to the list because sometimes plans dont go as u would hope and say 5 mths for example still dont have a place to live and were only expecting 1 or 2 mths u would regret not getting put on that list. its the best way to start out your life especially in this economy if u've had trouble makig rent payments in the past as i have. the only goal i'm working towards now is a vehicle. i've heard about a program through the welfare that help u get a car as long as your not making too much money, have a license, and diploma/ged. so i'm defently going to look into that and see what come comes of it. other assistance u can get through the welfare some of u may have heard about and some may not have so i will list them for those out there in need: clothing vouchers, foodstamps, work appliances voucher, furniture vouchers(i got brand new living room suit from the welfare), cellphones with limited minutes for emergency calls, medical cards, they also give money to certain individuals that complete ged, help with grants for schooling and if any1 out there is going through a rough time and not involved with the welfare please make appointment and see what all they can help u with. theres no need to be embarrassed or feel terrible about needing further assistance. i'm not ashamed in the least bit bc i know that if it wasnt for their kindness there would be days my kids would be going with out food and not up to date on their health checkups. i mean of course i dont want to live on welfare forever i wanna be able to do it by myself but i know i am not financially stable enough to support them on my own yet so for now i'll take the help i can get and i hope i've helped someone out there today. wic is another nice program for pregnant woman and children they supply u with milk fruit formula baby food and other such items throughout the mth. for those of u that have children 5 and under dolly parton sponsors a program where u can get books for your babies up until their 5 for free. to get a form to fill out for these free books visit your nearest wic office or library. also some people aren't aware that different missions churches salvation armys and other such will help u with utilities/rent if u have a shut off notice or eviction especially if u have children living in your home they r more likely to help. well i think its about my bedtime god bless to all and to all a good night. :)

About goodboys2

I am a single mom with two boys. I raised my sons since they were 2weeks old and 18 months old. My ex was verbally and physically abusive to me. He was an alcoholic. One day he just left (Thank God) He has not seen my sons since they were born. I am both mother and father to them. I finally pulled myself up and began to support my children. I became unemployed in May 2009, and still have not found work. We were evicted in July 2009, for not being able to pay. Many of our belongings were left, including baby books etc., because we had no where to live. I had to go onto Welfare, which is a degrading experience. I receive only $200/month. Sometimes I can not even wash the clothes. I am 3 months behind in rent and utilities. I get more and more depressed everyday. I feel like such a failure. I want to support myself and my sons. I can not afford summer clothes and shoes for my children  or me. I look for work daily with no success. My boys have given up so much and have been through SO much. They are good, nice, well adjusted boys. I DESPERATELY need a car to find work and get back and forth to work. My son is 17 and also is trying to find  a part time job after school. He also needs a car to get to work. I hope someone can help us. Having cars would help SO much!

Thank you VERY much!

Elaine

Stimulus Plan

I have been thinking about the stimulus plan the is suppose to be helping the country. I am not an economist but it really seems simple to me.

The Government should have let the companies that were going to bankrupt fail if they were going to, but if the gvernment gave each household that are legal residents of the US between $150,000 and $250,000 dollars, I believe would have fixed the problem without the mess.

With a stimulus package like this the population would pay off their homes, 1. takes care of the houseing industry, payoff their cars or buy hyrids, 2. helps the auto industry and help cut down the dependency on foriegn oil, Pay off their credit cards, bank loans, student loans, etc., 3. This would put money in the banks keeping the money flowing. The population could start new businesses if they chose to try.

They claim they need the consumers to start buying again, I don't see where this would be a problem if the population had money to spend  instead of how, when and where they would get a job and no money, it would cut down Aid and Welfare.

People would be able to aford the health care we have now. This is all provided for if it was done this way and provided the government laid down tighter rules on the banking, insurance, and credit card industries.

I can't see a down side to this, can you? Oh, yeah, I think we should be taking care of our own people first before thinking about TANF,TARP, etc. We were a lot better off when we werent so worried about making the world as ealthy as we were at the time, now lookat us, and does any of them appreciate it besides the Brits. I don't think so!

Oh, and MOST of all this would be cheaper than the stimulus plan they now have, for example there are approximately 3.5 million, legal, people in the states X$250,000.00= $875,000,000,000.00......that's 875 Billion dollars Not TRILLIONS. think about that a while!

Need Medical or Dental or Food Stamps?

Happy Holidays to all! I really hope we all break the barriers this New Year as we take the journey to new friendships pass the baton towards new hope and charity and good will!

As to my teeth, they are still begging for implants, or a before and after photo set, such is the peak of word of mouth advertising! Any dentists want the challenge? Please contact me at lizardfish101@gmail.com. I really want to participate in promoting your business!

For the rest of us poor folk, I have discovered, through my travels, that anyone can apply for medicaid even if you are working or need medical help, it is provided by your local Temporary Assistance or welfare offices. Don't be afraid to apply, because the protection is valuable and you pay nothing out of pocket once enrolled. I recommend Hudson Health Care, or Affinity as a primary care provider, through medicaid! Get it today and sign up if you need right away, it is free. You have dental and medical with the card provided through the welfare local agency in your area.

Also unemployment is provided to you, if you worked 26 weeks out of the year on the books and lost your job due to downsizing. If you lose your job due to bad conduct, or quitting you are disqualifying yourself from unemployment, so please be careful, better to get fired than to quit your job! Remember that! Apply with your home computer for unemployment too! Where I live in White Plains, NY, go to http://ui.labor.state.ny.us and apply there! Simple, everything is online now, no waiting!!! Go to your public library and use their computers, if you have no computer!

Love everyone, and God Bless

welfare - why you can't get what you need....

From Why welfare reform fails its recession test  By Peter Edelman and Barbara Ehrenreich , Sunday, December 6, 2009, Washington post

With these hard times, many people are losing their jobs, their homes, their cars and most think – they can rely on welfare- even if it is a last resort. Unbeknownst to them, even welfare is of little to no help.

"applying for welfare is a lot like being booked for a crime." There may be a mug shot, fingerprinting and lengthy interrogations as to the true paternity of one's children. Word gets around, and, even in the face of destitution, many people will not undergo such indignities.

When President Clinton signed the welfare reform in 1996, welfare went from bad to worse.

We all are well aware of the flaws within the system. However, no one was prepared for the deep chasm in the system without safety nets.

Welfare is neither enough to get people out of poverty, nor do they help applicants get or keep jobs, even though that is one of their main priorities. With the welfare reform of 1996 Clinton ended the legal right to cash assistance and imposed a 5 year limit to recipients. It also gave states complete discretion on how to administer benefits. As a result, welfare rolls were slashed 2/3 nationally in a few years.

While people are still entitled to unemployment, their benefits amount to less than ½ half their former wages.

As for food stamps - “the average benefit still isn't enough to meet people's basic nutritional needs, the program now serves 36 million people”

The case load for TANF (welfare) is about 5 million people, it's still just a little over a third of what it was 15 years ago, before welfare reform.”

“Why the huge difference between unemployment insurance and food stamp usage and welfare caseloads? People have a legal right to food stamps if they meet the statutory requirements, but since 1996 there has been no legal right to cash assistance.”

“According to the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, the number of homeless Americans is up by 61% since the recession began in December 2007.”

“The number of people living in poverty increased by 2.5 million during the first year of the recession”

“The government reported recently that nearly 50 million Americans are experiencing what it delicately calls "food insecurity."

“…advocates of welfare reform seemed to consider poverty a voluntary condition, one curable with a quick kick in the pants and the opportunity to work for minimum wage.”

Research showed that one in five former recipients ultimately became disconnected from any means of support: They no longer had welfare, but they didn't have jobs. They hadn't married or moved in with a partner or family, and they weren't getting disability benefits. And so, after a decline in the late 1990s, the number of people living in extreme poverty (with an income less than half the poverty line, or below about $9,100 for a family of three) shot up by more than a third, from 12.6 million in 2000 to 17.1 million in 2008.

Many observers welcomed these huge declines as proof that welfare reform was working. They didn't bother to follow these families as they moved into ever more crowded living situations, pieced together patchworks of part-time jobs or left their children alone while they went to work.

The current crisis shows even more vividly that TANF is essentially irrelevant in large parts of the country.

At the end of last year, Wyoming had 281 families on its rolls -- about 550 people. Idaho had 1,600 families, Oklahoma had 8,639, and Arkansas had 8,664. The share of poor families receiving TANF was 4 percent in Wyoming, 5 percent in Idaho, 9 percent in Illinois, 9 percent in Louisiana and 9 percent in Texas. Caseloads fell in 20 states during 2008. – How is that possible when so many people are LOSING their jobs?

Benefits are tiny, too, with 30 states paying a maximum benefit that's less than 30 percent of the federal poverty line. Mississippi skimps by offering its TANF recipients $170 a month for a family of three, about 9 percent of the poverty line and barely enough to cover the utility bills

Fourteen states said they had not changed any of their TANF policies or practices in response to higher unemployment.

42 states have rules that discourage enrollment, Two techniques used to reduce welfare rolls:

"diversion" -- essentially telling someone: "You look able-bodied. Go out and look for a job."

·         requiring an extensive job search, even when there are obviously no jobs to be found.

·         For a person without a car or access to public transportation, a requirement to apply for dozens of jobs before an application for welfare will even be considered, as some states and counties mandate, can be a deal-breaker.

"sanctioning"

·         kicking people off the rolls because they were late to a work assignment (no excuses accepted, whether for sick children, late buses or car trouble)

·         or didn't show up for an appointment at the welfare office (no dispensation for failure to receive notice of an appointment or inability to understand English).

·         In some states multiple infractions of this sort can result in lifetime disqualification.

Tip for dealing with Department of Human Services

Tip for dealing with your Department of Human Services office (Family Independence Agency, etc.) number one:

Always make at least one photo copy of everything you give to them because the odds of them losing it are astronomical.

I have been trying to deal with my case worker, who has gone above and beyond disrespect, discrimination, and pure heartlessness.  I hand delivered forms (of which I had to search the internet for because he refused to send them to me), along with my supplimentary documentation.  I didn't want to chance him saying it must have gotten lost in the mail.  I walked them into the office personally, wrote my name on every single page, clipped them together, put them into an inner office memo folder, tied it up, wrote my worker's name on it, and put it into the large box, following the directions on the box to a tee.  The box is emptied every night, but yet my worker's supervisor's supervisor has searched and cannot find evidence of any of my documents.  My only possible determination is that when they were delivered to my worker, he threw them away, since he wasn't going to send me the paperwork I needed anyway, and didn't send me the paperwork.  This is exactly what I thought would happen.  Unfortunate as that is, that is how it is.

I understand that the workers work hard (and I appreciate that greatly), that they have high caseloads, and are overworked.  But the continuing problems I'm facing with my worker in particular is unacceptable to me, and seems to be unacceptable to the superior supervisor as well.

The phone message I received was from the superior supervisor telling me that they do not have my paperwork, and requested that I go to the office today or tomorrow and refill it out.  I would think that working in the DHS office would mean they would understand the financial constraints of people with little money having to drive back and forth to an office that is forty minutes away, with gas prices, going up again, and having jobs.  I have all ready had to miss work to meet their appointments and things.

I also understand that the horrible experiences I am having with my worker are not necessarily the norm, but the tip remains: always, always make copies.

About spathiphyllum_59

Hello, my name is Rachel and I am from Muskegon, MI. I am a single mother looking for a job, although I don't believe I put myself in this situation. When I got married, my husband was working full time as well as attending college for an electrical engineering degree.

Our divorce started after he became physically abusive to me. We had been married for four years and I never saw this coming - I also did not know that he was addicted to crack cocaine until after the divorce was already in process.

I have an Associates degree in Human Services, but in Michigan, the jobs are few and far between. I would love a job working with troubled teens, as I used to be a licensed foster parent and I've always felt as though I had an affinity for it. I've had lots of interviews, but no success. I cannot continue college at this time due to being a single mother with not much resources, although someday I will go back and get my Bachelors, and hopefully go further from there.

My ex hasn't tried to pay child support since October of last year, and it is now July. He also hasn't even tried to see our son since September of last year, although I do view this to be a good thing if he is still addicted.  I am having such a hard time keeping things together without a job. We lost our home to foreclosure and I am living at my mother's. I feel as though my dreams and independence have been put on hold indefinitely. I am in counseling, but counseling doesn't pay bills or even fix my kid's bike.

I have always helped others, from being a foster parent to becoming a volunteer in Pass Christian, Mississippi for two months after Hurricane Katrina. The tides have turned, and I feel as though I have nowhere to turn. I am receiving welfare, but now I am held to their rules and regulations, and I just want my independence back. I think most of all, I just want a job and my ability to make decisions for myself.

Where is the help for the people that need food and lodging in this country

I have been online looking for ways to help some on my money issue. I found out I can not get government help because I make 200.00 a year to much to get food stamps or any other help. I understand there are people out there that have never worked for a living and has lived off the government; but what about those of us who have worked for years and now cannot get help. With the prices going up for food and everything else, how are those of us on a fixed income get food or the things that are needed for our daily lives. Come on people we need to find a way that all of us can live a life that is free in someway of being able to but food on our table, get the pills that are needed. This is the USA why can't we help those that are in need why do we send so much money to other countries but will not help this country. It is not fair we need to find a way to make this work for all of us.

Single Mom Needing Help NOW!!!!!

I am a single mother of one child (13). I am currently living with friends but am needing of assistance ASAP. I am unemployed and seeking work where I live has been difficult considering that I dont have my own transportation and I dont have the funds for the city buses. I have on numerous occassions applied for welfare assistance only to be turned down due to the fact that I am living with friends and that they are providing a roof over my head. I have been to food banks, which I am only allowed to receive once a month, and I have applied with the local employment office and temp agencies with no luck. I have no income, no child support, no welfare assistance coming in at all. I have nothing. I have turned to every state ran organization where I live at only to be turned down for everything that I have applied for. I have even tried to get relocated into shelters to see if I could get any type of assistance that way but again, no help their as well. I have been unemployed for 1 year now and I am needing to know if there is someone or some agency out their that can help me to possibly relocate to another state. I am hoping to see if someone can help me and my child relocate to the New Jersey or New york areas or some other type of large city to where I know that I may get the help that I need to get back on my feet, support my child and possibly in the future support myself without help. I know that by relocating somewhere else will cause me to stay in a shelter but I am ok with that as long as I can get the help I need and the work so that I can take care of me and my child. If you or someone you know can assist me, please contact me at:   cu4t@hotmail.com        I am in deseperate need of someones help. Thank You.
